      Description

      Our dressed lake smelt are headless, gutted and packaged all together as Individually Quick Frozen - IQF. They can vary in size based on the smelt run that day but are usually between 2-3 inches long - these are on the smaller side than what we've had available in the past. These are caught in the spring during the annual smelt run and immediately processed and frozen.

      These are raw fish -- NOT breaded. Also, since they are a less expensive fish per pound, you may want to combine with other products to reduce the shipping cost per pound.

      This product has been very hard to stock and we've had to switch up suppliers.  So right now we have IQF, not the previous batch which was vac pack.

      I have ordered from Walleye Direct a couple of times and even though I live on Lake Erie I still prefer to order from Walleye Direct. They sell a great product and it's processed in a proper fashion. The smelt are cleaned and ready to cook. I love smelt but down here we use them for bait. The smelt I get from Walleye Direct go directly into a batter and a deep fryer and my tummy. Nothin Better.

      I purchased these Smelt to have a Smelt fry for my Grandparents and I couldn't be happier! They cooked up great with a simple batter and were tastier than I expected they would be. They come in 1 pound packages so keeping the portions in order is simple! I highly recommend these fish!

      These are unbelievable. I lightly covered them with the shore lunch breading and cooked them about 5 at a time in a fry baby. One package was gone in minutes.
