    Description

5 pounds of headless, scaled, frozen skin-on sunfish/bluegill fillets

    Small/Medium sized skin-on fillets in 1 pound vacuum-packs 15-20 fillets each.

Bluegills go by many names depending on the area of the country--Sunfish, Brim, Bream, Pumpkinseed, Coppernose, call them what you want and order the wild caught frozen fillets here.

Because these are smaller fish the size of the fillets can vary with the season. (It depends what we catch--sometimes bigger fillets, sometimes a bunch of little ones). However, good news you don't have to scale them as we did the dirty work.

    Package

You will receive a box of 5 vacuum packs (about 1 pound each) in a cardboard box with enough dry ice to arrive frozen.

    How it tastes

Expect a firm, mild, slightly sweet flavor.

    Ways to cook

Grilling or pan-frying it is a great option to bring out its natural flavors. Baking bluegill with herbs and lemon slices is also a popular choice, providing a light and fresh taste.

The new Delivery method is fine. I liked the old package method better, because I could select what I wanted and begin preparation without thawing out a pound plus ice. I refroze mine on a cookie sheet with waxed paper underneath, but they sort of stuck to the waxed paper.I'll try coating them with cornmeal next time.I do my fresh oysters that way.If I have a choice I'll order the loose frozen. It would eliminate the extra work when all i want to do is eat fish. They also cook up a little gummier or tougher?

Don't be deterred by the small size of sunfish fillets! It is a wonderful, delicious fish. I watched Jesse batter and fry it online, but it doesn't have to be cooked high-fat or with allergenic foods. If you poach it in salted water for 5 to 10 minutes and then cool it until you can handle it, the fish curls a little (I'm guessing because the skin contracts) and you can grab a corner of the skin with your fingernails and peel the whole skin off easily and quickly.

The bluegills came frozen and packaged well. They were too small. I think you would get a lot more reorders if they were from the larger bluegills. The size you sell are the size we throw back. Word of mouth about you selling this item would up your sales. In my town and my neck of the woods. We can’t get them at a store or restaurant. Up the size and you will gain a lot more customers

Fish usually game in one bag and individual fillets. Was easy to pick out how much to cook for a meal. Now 4 packages , not sure how may fillets in each. Is a problem

I love bluegill but these are way to small. Most of these filets are only the size of my finger. i'm not sure how they are farmed there but they should let them get bigger before harvesting them.

I just received my first order from Walleye Direct. I have not tried the walleye yet but they look a decent size and in good condition. The bluegills are extremely small. Most are 1 x 1 inches and the few of the largest are about 3" x 2" in size. I do not know what to do with these small pieces. It takes about 10 pieces to make a meal. The prices of $95 for the 5lbs seems overly pricey!
