      Description

      5 pounds of headless, scaled, frozen skin-on sunfish/bluegill fillets

      Small/Medium sized skin-on fillets in 1 pound vacuum-packs 15-20 fillets each.

      Bluegills go by many names depending on the area of the country--Sunfish, Brim, Bream, Pumpkinseed, Coppernose, call them what you want and order the wild caught frozen fillets here.

      Because these are smaller fish the size of the fillets can vary with the season. (It depends what we catch--sometimes bigger fillets, sometimes a bunch of little ones). However, good news you don't have to scale them as we did the dirty work.

      Package

      You will receive a box of 5 vacuum packs (about 1 pound each) in a cardboard box with enough dry ice to arrive frozen.

      How it tastes

      Expect a firm, mild, slightly sweet flavor.

      Ways to cook

      Grilling or pan-frying it is a great option to bring out its natural flavors. Baking bluegill with herbs and lemon slices is also a popular choice, providing a light and fresh taste.

      The fish was ok, not at all great as I was expecting for that money. I would not serve this to a guest. They were mediocre at best but edible, unlike the lake trout. I'll look for another source. Fish here in AZ is not great but certainly better than this. I get frozen walleye here that is very good. I am not sure why your fish is very limp, soft and crumbly, not solid like a filet should feel. It truly tastes and feels like it was frozen for a very long time or has freezer burn. Being in vacuum packs I would think that this was not the problem.

      Many of the fillets were too small to fillet/eat. We have owned a cabin in Northern Minnesota since 1980 and we would not think of keeping fish this small because we know we cannot fillet them. For $50/lb this should be much better, huge fillets all fresh and consistent in size.

      There was a lot of the fish. It was not completely cleaned of scales and not as good as perch. I normally get perch cuz it is my favorite, however way more expensive this time, sooooo tried this. Iffy on getting it again. Will continue to monitor the perch pricing...

      I think these are dandy. I routinely catch bluegill. They are my favorite red ear being the best. I took the skin off and the line of small bone like I do the ones I catch. My kids ate thousands of fish I caught and there was no way did I want them to get a bone stuck inside of them. The texture was slightly less firm but the flavor is wondermous!

      Used to go to a lake in Canada as a boy. These are exactly like the ones I caught off the dock, though we only kept the larger ones. A little more fish flavor than the Perch, think I prefer them.
