Smelt - Dressed - 11 lbs

Thank you once again for supplying me with perfect size smelt. They come in 1 lb packages and are so convenient to thaw out to satisfy my craving. Love this product

Everything was great, I have been wanting smelt since I moved from Indiana, near lake Michigan, in the mid seventies. I was happy to find Walleye Direct. However, the smelt had sort of a "fishy" smell to them, which was a slight turn off, but it did not impede the taste, once I seasoned them.

I grew up in Minnesota and always loved the Spring smelt run. Living in Colorado made it a thing of the past. When I saw that Walleye Direct had smelt available I wanted some - and I was nervous that it wouldn't be as good as my memories. Not to worry! It is every bit as good, and I had a chance to introduce it to my daughter who is now also a fan.

The smelt are awesome. I got 12lbs and they were packed in 12 - 1lb vacuum packed bags, which is perfect for a single guy like myself. I waited all winter because they were out of stock, so I was on their contact list and as soon as they were available, they e-mailed me and I ordered right away.

They came frozen and 1 lb packages. Very little prep work ( some entrails) but nothing significant. Fried them and memories of going smelt dipping came back. Just like the old days except the cleaning. I would recommend these.

As a 64-year-old, born and raised on the shores of Gitche Gummee, fondly remembering the spring “smelt” run in decades past, I truly appreciate these little, delightful, smelly, but yummy fish being offered. Yes, I live in Orlando Florida now. Yes, I paid a lot for shipping. Yes, I was afraid that they would arrive spoiled in our 90-degree heat. But everything came totally frozen and surprisingly well vacuum sealed in 1-pound bags. Straight from box to freezer, except for one, which I fried up the next day. Thanks Walleye Direct, for giving this aging Yooper some memories of the past. You do a great job. Especially with packaging. Keep doing it and I am your customer for as long as I can be. I ordered these online because all stores near me are out of stock. The smelts are still frozen when I received it. It is very well packaged, and most fishes are about 4-5'' long. I air-fried some and everyone loves it.

I love the smelt. It's large and cleaned. I recommend it to everyone. You will not be sorry. I also recommend the white fish and lake trout

If you haven't had smelt in a while this is the place to go. When I lived in Chicago we would seine for smelt every year sometimes our 5 gal buckets would be full & sometimes they would be full of empty beer cans, but no matter what we enjoyed and the package from Walleye Direct are just as good. You will need to defrost into smaller packages since they come frozen in about 3-4lbs pkgs.

My dad and his friends used to fish for smelt off of the Great Lakes. My mom used to pan fry them at family parties. We did the same with these smelt - and they were amazing!

these were the best smelt I have had in a very long time. Lately when I buy them here in the store they seem to be very small and sometimes just bits and pieces.

I haven't had smelt in 20 plus years since I moved down south. Reminds me of the old days when we'd have it on our fish Fridays. Battered, deep fried in peanut oil, salt and pepper to taste. What an excellent delight! With 12lbs. I have enough for a long time of enjoyment.

I was very disappointed in the quality of your product. The first bag I opened the day I received them to make them for dinner, less then half of them were cut open, about a quarter of them were in pieces. We love smelts and we were so excited to have found a place in which to order them from but sadly I will not be ordering them again. They were very small in comparison to ones we got while vacationing in MI!

The Smelts were awesome, trench them in very cold “beer” batter then deep fry them in a hot oil bath for a few minutes and you’re rockin’!
